The natura morta sujet in the foreground is complemented by another, more “technical” still life, two Anderson winches on the hard shell side of the vessel - a vintage Swan from the sixties. The background landscape displays the view from board towards the South cap of Tyrell Bay. The painting was intended to serve as a background image in the company’s party pavilion during their appearances at international trade fairs, providing the backdrop for exclusive events with invited guests. This gave rise to the oil painting SELAM X, measuring 6 meters wide and 2 meters high. It consists of three individual panels, each 2 by 2 meters in size, which can also be treated as independent works. The iconic Tom House, a Craftsman-style bungalow on a palm-tree-dotted hilltop in Echo Park, is home to the founding members of a communal household, Durk Dehner and Sharp. In the 1990s, they first invited the Finnish artist Tom of Finland to live and work with them in this very house. While the house is partially a museum of gay erotic art—the archive of the Tom of Finland Foundation preserves and protects the legacy of the renowned gay erotic art illustrator and author—for over 20 years, international artists working in the field of gay erotic art have been invited to live and create there in three-month cycles. The large garden serves as an open-air studio, meeting place, and community center. For the design of a mural in a Berlin club, he is elaborating a pictorial concept inspired by classical and partly figurative composition, drawing on the baroque formal language to reinterpret a theme from ancient mythology. The scene of the present concept (November 2025) depicts the moment when all the centaurs rush back to their common cave to kill an intruder. The intruders are Heracles and his brother Iolaos. They have opened the wine — a gift from Bacchus to the centaurs — whose scent has alerted its owners and summoned them from every corner of the ancient earth. In the process of working toward a modern interpretation of this story, various modes of representation are explored.
